ICONIC PHOTOGRAPH OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL

Undated, but later black and white gelatin silver print, originally taken in 1941.  Image size: 13 ½ x 10 1/2”; paper size, 16.25  x 13”, edge to edge.  Signed in black ink, in the lower left of the white margin, “Y. Karsh/Ottawa.”  On verso of print it is stamped:  No.  “R. L.” [in manuscript] Karsh, Ottawa.Photograph in pristine condition.  Modern metal framing, archival matting, photograph carefully hinged using acid free tape.


Karsh took this photograph in 1941  just after Churchill gave a speech to the Canadian Parliament, while Churchill was visiting Ottawa, Canada.


Over the years, Karsh continued to print additional images. Print sizes have varied, from approximately 9 ½ inches in height to as much as 19 ¾ inches in height.
